Keeping Time: A Harmonists Pinkeep
Peggy Taylor / Loom Hall Textiles
Learn about the settlers from Germany who established New Harmony in 1814, and how their self-sufficient utopian community still echoes through history in this charming town on the Wabash River.
We'll create a primitive pin-keep from an exclusive chart, designed by the instructor, Peggy Taylor, with inspiration found in the 200+ year old artifact of the Harmonist sundial. As a special treat, we'll view this very sundial in the first floor of our classroom building and see its modern counterpart on the south exterior wall of the Community House #2.
The pin-keep will use basic stitches and can be further embellished as you wish. Included in the kit are the original chart, the hand-dyed linen and flosses, needle, and the backing fabric. Also available will be wool roving from the instructor's flock of Shetland sheep for stuffing the pin-keep.
Students will bring their own scissors.
Class Maximum: 12 Students
Class Fee: 75.00
